Spruce Creek Holistic Center was established in 1988 by Henry Altenberg, M.D. and Jean Altenberg, R.N. Our goal is to provide information and instruction about health and healing of Mind, Body and Spirit - the essential definition of holism. Lectures, workshops and group meetings, in various places with a variety of presenters have been arranged. A significant and valuable activity of Spruce Creek Holistic Center has been an ongoing weekly support group for anyone with a life-threatening or serious physical illness. Attendees have included spouses and other significant persons who are relevant to the person's healing. There are no fees for this service, although donations are accepted. A major contribution to public education by Spruce Creek Holistic Center is the publication of a book, Holistic Medicine: A Meeting of East and West, by Henry Altenberg, published in September 1992, reprinted 1998, by Japan Publications of Tokyo and New York. It is a 200-page guide to the field of holistic medicine. It includes information from some of the workshops that have been held by Spruce Creek Holistic Center, such as those on Affirmations, Rebirthing, and other healing methods. The book is available from the Center at $19.95, postage paid. Henry and Jean Altenberg frequently present workshops at the Annual Maine Healing Arts Festival in Freedom, Maine. Both Henry and Jean have attended conferences in other parts of the United States and Europe in order to obtain and share information. This includes attendance at annual meetings of the American Holistic Medical Association. Jean participated as a facilitator in the First Annual Free-Breathers Conference in Moscow, Russia in 1991. She is certified by Sondra Ray as a Rebirther. Both Jean and Henry have taught courses at North Shore Community College in Beverly and Danvers, Massachusetts. |
Jean A. Altenberg,
R.N., Reiki Master The basic or introductory course in Reiki consists of a two day experiential workshop during which the trainee is opened as a channel for Reiki energy. Enrollees learn to "scan" a client's body to perceive areas of reduced vitality, and learn the Reiki process. This can be used on oneself and others. The Reiki energy can be utilized in emergency situations, such as for bruises, burns, cuts, and surgical procedures, to enhance healing, as well as for long-standing emotional and physical problems. Like traditional "laying on of hands," it is calming and soothing, as well as healing. It reduces stress and pain, and facilitates the healing process. If you are interested in learning more about Reiki and the healing power of Reiki energy, or if you would like to consider hosting a Reiki workshop in your home, please contact Jean at 207-439-0612. |
