Money is love. Wherever
you focus your love energy is where love
multiplies. Many people love to buy things, they
love to spend money. There is nothing “bad”
about spending money. Remember that when you do,
you are focusing love, you are focusing your
attention in a specific manner and your material
world will multiply. At least it will for a
while.
The key, and the catch
word, is balance. For when you focus your love
(obsessively) on buying things, you are in the
process of loving that which you are not. This
is different from going shopping once in a while
or buying some things you need or truly enjoy.
We are talking about what you call “compulsive
spending.” This is the habit of trying to
obtain, to be, what you feel you are missing.
When you focus your attention in this way, you
are focusing on what you are not. Not only your
financial love energy gets depleted in this way
(and energy always gets depleted when focusing
on what you are not) but also your time love
energy. Time is love too, as it is a focusing of
your life force, of your love and your very
essence. So when you are focusing your love and
your very life in this way, you choose to drain
yourself. As a result you are also not focusing
on that which renews and nurtures you. You
cannot focus on your own nurturing when you are
busy seeking to find your lack. You cannot be
who you are when you are trying to be who you
are not.
What many compulsive and
“addicted” type people find when they hit “rock
bottom” is that after so much energy has been
focused on being who they are not, that the
abundance and the fun time ends. A person can
only sustain themselves for so long when
focusing their love in a way that is harmful to
them. The Universe is not designed for a person
to be anything but loved and supported. And so a
person begins to see that their lives are out of
balance. Some people can see this right away and
some take longer. Most people can require many
lifetimes. It is all about love, love of Self.
Money is just one more “arena” in which a person
can choose to learn about Self love.
We suggest to you, then,
that money is a means of Self love, of spiritual
growth. Like all forms of love and all teachers,
money is neither “good” nor “bad.” It is just
another way for you to understand how you flow,
how you let love in and give it out. If you can
become aware of your spending habits, and can do
it without judgment, you can understand, on a
very deep level, how to live your life in a way
that is loving and supportive of who you truly
are. Many will find that when they do so, money
ceases to be an issue and begins to become a
friend.
The problem of compulsive,
unloving spending is compounded when you add the
factor of guilt. Once guilt is attached to
money, money becomes a sign of shame, of knowing
that you are not good enough and feeling out of
control. Nobody wants to be reminded of this,
and so more money goes out trying to find your
Self and the temptation is to bury your head in
the sand by spending more to shut out the
feelings.
Money then starts to
become synonomous with the shame of not -being.
Nobody wants to receive money if it makes them
feel shame and not good enough. The fear becomes
great that if they have money, they will spend
it in a way that feels scary and painful. And so
the flow of money inward slows. Meanwhile more
money continues to go “out” in the spending.
Once the understanding of
this process is realized, money can be seen as
the teacher and not as the enemy or the thing
that needs to be obtained so that you can be
obtained. A balance begins to be achieved. Self
love opens the door to true financial
prosperity. Self love is financial prosperity.
It takes some courage, a lot of it sometimes, to
see your relation to money in this way, but the
payoff (sorry, could not resist) is a life of
true abundance and a more fulfilling definition
of prosperity from the inside out. You are never
wanting or needing and your cup is always full.
